Generic mingling post!!

[Anyone and anymon with a sense of smell may notice a rather nice one coming from the direction of the Pokemon Center, or maybe they'll see the small crowd first...

It looks like someone got permission to put a long table full of food out in front of the center. It's got berry pies, berry cakes, berry juice, and even a few rare candies. Anyone who doesn't like berries is out of luck, but there's all kinds of treats for those who do. A card placed on the table says it's all free to be taken, and a young man with pink hair will be helping any younger kids or shorter 'mons get what they want.

A little group of people has gathered around to eat standing up or sitting in the Center's lobby. Come get a snack? And maybe introduce yourself to the other (unfortunate) people here?]

Mako looks briefly thoughtful before launching into a lecture.

"Well, Etranger is a Hydreigon - a dual-type Dark/Dragon pokemon. The family line starts with Deino before they evolve into Zweilous and finally Hydreigon, but in practice you will never see a wild Hydreigon and even wild Zweilous are fairly rare simply because wild Deino are violent and not particularly bright, so they have a high mortality rate. Anyone that actually has the skill and patience to train a Hydreigon is usually accorded a high level of respect since unskilled trainers generally can't handle them, and since Deino are blind and interact with their surroundings by biting it can actually be fairly painful to train them. Hydreigon are well known for having a high level of power and an unusually broad pool of attacks and are generally considered one of the strongest non-Legendary Dragon-types in Unova. Etranger here I raised from an egg - I paid a lot of attention to her upbringing so she's actually far more friendly than most of her species but..."

Pause for breath.

"...people rarely believe me right off the bat when I say that, so it meant a lot to me when your Castform approached her, since trained pokemon don't do that too often."

A slight pause as she reflects.

"Uh. I...said way too much again, didn't I? Um. Sorry. My name's Mako, I'm from Nuvema Town in Unova."

[Lani just listens carefully through all of that.
And then a smile] Ah, no, don't worry. It's interesting--I've never been to Unova.

My name is Lani. I'm from Mauville, in Hoenn.

Mako brightens up at that - usually people are taken aback when she starts lecturing.

"Oh, you're from Hoenn? Is it true that the Weather Research Institute there actually artificially created the first Castform?"
relevantribbons: (All right!)

[personal profile] relevantribbons 2012-12-04 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
They did! My mom works there!

[And there you have it. This kid comes from scientist stock]
etranger: (triumphant)

[personal profile] etranger 2012-12-04 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Mako is practically breathless with excitement.

"That's so neat! Do you know much about the project? Like, how long it took to create the first Castforms?"
relevantribbons: (But that...)

I'm not sure... the creation itself took a while but it's planning that took a really long time... We moved there when I was five, but they had already been working on it for years...
relevantribbons: (Weeeell...)

[personal profile] relevantribbons 2012-12-04 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
... I'd have to ask mom.
etranger: (thoughtful)

[personal profile] etranger 2012-12-04 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Mako is about to say something when she pauses and looks around.

"Say, where are we, anyway?"

Apparently she only just now thought to ask.
relevantribbons: (No I'm fine...)

[personal profile] relevantribbons 2012-12-04 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Kanto, apparently.
etranger: (bewildered)

[personal profile] etranger 2012-12-04 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Mako lets out an impressed whistle.

"Wow...I'm pretty sure the Entree's never sent me this far before."
etranger: (triumphant)

[personal profile] etranger 2012-12-04 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Mako nods.

"Yeah, it's a magic tree in the center of Unova that lets you walk between worlds."

She places her hands on her hips and lets out a confident laugh.

"I guess I've really powered it up with all those missions, huh!"

[Oh my god. Sparkly eyes. TELL HER MORE]

Mako draws out an electronic device of some sort and proceeds to flip a switch, which lights up the screen.

"Okay, this is the C-Gear. See these buttons on the screen?"

She indicates the three buttons on the touch screen, bearing the words IR, WIRELESS, and ONLINE.

"If I touch the Wireless button, I can use the C-Gear to connect to the Entree and warp to the center of Unova. There are special bridges there that let you pass over into nearby worlds, and while you're there you can connect to that world's Entree and undertake special missions to help people in that world. When you complete a mission, the link between that world's Entree and my Entree resonates and the Entree drinks in the feelings of gratitude and grows stronger."
relevantribbons: (But that...)

[personal profile] relevantribbons 2012-12-04 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
... so it lets you move between worlds... just like that? [UNOVA TECHNOLOGY WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE]
Do you have to go back to your world afterwards, or can you jump from one to the other in a chain?

[personal profile] etranger 2012-12-04 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"You get sent back to your own world after ten minutes have passed or you've completed a mission, whichever comes first."

Mako indicates the ONLINE button next.

"See this one? When you press this, the C-Gear emits special waves that will put a single pokemon to sleep, and then you can use a special machine to view its dreams. When it wakes up, the C-Gear resonates with the Entree, and parts of the dream are drawn into reality!"

A slight pause.

"Trying to figure out how it works makes my head hurt, frankly, but it does. I actually have a Politoed I trained that was part of a dream my Bisharp was having."
relevantribbons: (But that...)

[Oh, so it wouldn't be useful for actual travel.... but still]

So who made all that technology?
etranger: (Default)

[personal profile] etranger 2012-12-04 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Professor Fennel from Striaton City. I helped find an important power source for the Dream Machine!"

I hope I can meet her someday.
[Well, she's not a scientist herself, but old habbits die hard. And it all sounds fascinating... and in her situation, potentially useful]

"If you ever do, she'll probably give you a C-Gear, too. It helps with data collection."

That would be great!

... by the way, do you have any other teammates?
etranger: (Default)

[personal profile] etranger 2012-12-05 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Mako nods.

"Right now, besides Etranger, I also have a Lilligant, a Bisharp, an Emboar, a Sigilyph, and a Ninetails I'm training for a friend."
relevantribbons: (But that...)

[personal profile] relevantribbons 2012-12-05 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Lilligants are so pretty... I don't know most of the others though... I've seen a bisharp once, but...

Mako's eyes light up as she removes five pokeballs from her belt. Tossing the first one up, it releases a massive bipedal boar with a beard of fire. Mako places one hand on his right arm while the Emboar runs the thick, stubby fingers of his left hand through his beard.

"This is Hampyre, my Emboar. He's my very first pokemon!"

The Emboar utters a grunting chuckle at this, carefully patting Mako on the back with one massive hand before lumbering over to the table to look at a pile of berries.

Mako rotates her shoulders, loosening herself up from the braced position she took at Hampyre's display of affection, and activates the next pokeball, releasing a Grass type.

"This is my Lilligant, Aeris. Out of all my pokemon, she's the strongest!"

The flower belle trills pleasantly, happy to meet new people, as Mako digs through her bag and emerges with a bottle of Fresh Water, which she opens up and carefully pours over the Lilligant's roots. Mako then heads over to the nearest section of table and snags a pair of Oran Berries, which she quickly hands over to Aeris.

Drawing out another pokeball - this one an Ultra Ball - she releases a vaguely humanoid figure seemingly made out knives, which lets out a cry like steel being honed.

"This is Kamen Rider, my Bisharp. He's my capture specialist!"

The Bisharp nods once in acknowledgment before striding over to the table, grabbing what appears to be a Cheri tart, and heading over to Etranger to devour it. As the Steel-type passes Hampyre, the boar watches him go past with a stoic expression before taking a bite out of the Sitrus berry he was holding.

The next pokeball releases...well, it's...probably a bird? Maybe? ...it's kind of hard to tell where its eyes are - are they the pale blue orbs spaced around its barrel-like chest, or the single, massive sphere placed in the head-like bit at the top of its body?

"This is my Sigilyph! I got her in a trade when she was about a week old."

The bird (?) spins in place once before flying over the table, the tines of its wings glowing a light blue as it levitates a pastry off of it. Three feet past the table, it executes a pair of sharp right turns and flies over to Aeris.

Mako holds up the final pokeball, considering it briefly before stowing it away, unopened.

"I'd show you the Ninetails, but this one has kind of an unusual ability - if I let it out here, it'd affect the weather pretty badly, and that seems a bit irresponsible."
